Firefighter's Son Improving!

A new baby in our midst... Our thoughts and prayers go out to Jim Uthe and his family. Below was sent out from Jeff Renner, Monte Pyrtle and the Adel Fire Department:

Sunday some of you may already know fellow firefighter, Jim Uthe, and his wife Laura, welcomed a little boy named Urban into the world. They are experiencing some truly hard times with some health issues right now as he was born via emergency C- section and lost 2/3's of his blood upon birth. He's in the NICU on a ventilator and a heat unit and EEG shows he has some brain damage and seizure activity. We can't even imagine what is going through Jim and Laura's minds right now, but they are optimistic as he's showing great improvements. Lets pray he'll continue to make great change. We just ask that anyone who has a spare minute to pray from Jim, Laura, and Urban, do so as they have a few more weeks before he comes home. We will attach Jim's email address and cell phone number as I'm sure he'd love to hear from all of us. hopefully Laura had a Happy Mothers Day with her little boy! jimmyu78@hotmail.com or 1-563-580-9492. Thanks again for your prayers as they are felt by the Uthe family at this time.

The Adel Firefighters took up a collection to help the family. Firefighters are a tight-knit group of folks and they always jump to the aid of their own, just as they rush when they volunteer their time to fight fires and got to accident scenes. It was easy to see why some of they guys got a little choked up when they read the note (below) that was sent out from the new father, Jim Uthe, as a thank you to all:

"Urban has been improving by leaps and bounds over the past 6 days. He is off of O2 and all meds and is breast feeding. We can't thank you enough for your thoughts and prayers that contributed to this miracle. His recovery has been truly astounding. During rounds the doctors come by and just shake their heads, smile and say over and over "it is just incredible that he has recovered like this". Again, thank you all for the prayers; he has definitely beaten the odds. I know babies are resilient, but I believe it was the thoughts and prayers from you all that gave him the strength and fight to be where he is at today. It has been a miracle that he survived and is in such good condition so quickly, I don't know how else to explain it. Yesterday, one of the doctors said lets try to get him out of here this weekend, so they have increased his feeding to 65 cc's every 3 hours. He is nursing, yet usually tires before he gets a full feeding so they fill him up via his feeding tube. They pushed his liver tests back til tomorrow, and he also gets an EEG tomorrow to check for seizure activity again. We are optimistic that everything will go OK and he will be home by Sunday. Laura and I cannot thank you enough for all of your generosity with the prayers, money, gifts, and support. We are awestruck. All I can say is you guys just plain rock. If one of you has a list of email addresses for everyone on the department could you please send that on to me, I don't know why I didn't ask for that earlier? I would really appreciate that so I could send this letter on to everyone. God bless you and your families. ~Jim and Laura

Here's to the new little Fire"fighter" in the ranks! We wish you many more smiles and yawns as you grow big and strong Urban!! :)
