Planting Pine Trees

Sadly, the 200 white pine saplings we planted last year, with the great help of Nowysz boys, all died. The nursery tells us it was likely the horribly wet weather we had last spring. So, still wishing to have a grove of tall green pines to look at while breathing in that fresh pine smell of the mountains, we decided to try it again... only this time, with 300. Yea, guess we're gluttons for punishment...

We chose two different varieties. 100 Norway Spruce in the front row.
They look like this tiny green stick now, but will grow to look like this someday.

The back two rows are the really soft needled and tall Eastern White Pine.
They look like this now, but will grow to this someday. We'll see what this year's weather brings, but we've already had our wonderful neighbor's Kay and Jamie Martin offer us their water tank to water them this summer, in the event it gets too dry this year instead of too wet, so we're set!

As the darkness was creeping in, I stopped to take this picture of Jim planting tree number 275, our last of the day. Our bodies aching, fingernails filled with dirt, I asked Jim, "Are we getting too old to think we can keep this up?" His answer: "Not yet!"
