Beaucoup Butterflies

Saturday, Jim and I journeyed back in time to our college days in Cyclone Country, (Ames) to visit a few old haunts. Meeting up again with fellow roomie, Miss Victoria, and her folks, Bud and Jane, our first stop was lunch at Hickory Park for some of the BEST BBQ and ice-cream desserts around. MMMM- MMMM!! I wish I could say we had room for dessert, but the hot Apple -Crisp Sundae will have to wait another day!

Next stop was Reiman Gardens, Iowa State's Horticulture Gardens.
The gardens originated in 1911, moved a couple of times, and after a sizable donation is now is located at the entrance to campus near Jack Trice Stadium. It now encompasses 14 acres of gorgeous plants, a pond, a learning/conference center/gift shop and many art pieces.

But we were most excited to see the new 2500 sq feet butterfly wing All year long they incubate and release hundreds of different species of some butterflies and moths.

This week we were lucky to be able to see some of the largest species. There were SO many to see. You all should go if you have a chance... but until then, here is a link to see some of the butterflies for yourself: http://www.reimangardens.iastate.edu/en/butterflies/

The gang couldn't resist a good water fight!

They pumped and water shot out the frog's mouths.

Everywhere we go, they think we're sisters... and we didn't even plan to dress alike!! :)

We hustled home to do evening chores so we could catch a flick with Victoria. Not much out there there this summer, but we gals wanted to see "Julie and Julia". Jim went, albeit a bit less enthusiastic to see a "chick flick"! Ha!! But we were ALL pleasantly surprised with the heart-warming story, the laughs and especially Streep's stunning portrayal of Child. She did a phenomenal job. I'm betting she gets an Oscar nomination for this one. Go see it if you get the chance!
