Old Mother Nature opened her bag of tricks a little early this year as far as winter is concerned. We had our first measureable snow on Saturday morning - -1.1 inches! We broke the record for the first snow fall, since they began keeping records in 1884, which was set in 1916!
I know it's a pain for everyone to drive in - but it sure was pretty. It doesn't bother Jim at all - as you can see from his big smile as he heads off before the sun is even up to officiate another college game.
We've had a large group of about 30 canadian geese hanging around the hayfield these past couple of weeks. We usually have a small group visit in the spring with their new goslings, but this has been a first this late in the Fall. Sooner or later they should be flying south.
When the snow stopped falling just before noon, they all got brave and waddled right up to the house and began to drink water from the puddles in the driveway.
It didn't last long, however, so we Iowans can still enjoy a bit more of the wonderful colors of Fall!
