We had some wonderful friends, the Markuson's come to visit this past weekend. Pete and Sue and their sweet boys, CJ, Connor and Christopher. Sue used to work with Jim at Fremont Comp when they had an office in West Des Moines. We've kept in touch since then, but hadn't seen them in years. It was SO great to visit with them and meet the boys in person!

The Markuson's live in the Chicago suburbs and rarely get to visit the country. We're always happy to share our country life, especially with the youngins!

The horses are always a big hit with the kids, so Connor jumped right in and offered to brush. I'm not sure if it's the "MOM" in Brandy, but she just loves having kids around. She stands so quietly while they brush and walk around her.
...While CJ and Christopher meet Charmer. They had fun watching her do her "take a bow" , "back" and "lift your foot" tricks. Then giggled while feeding her banana peels for her hard work!

Then it was time to RIDE! Christopher was the youngest, but the bravest!

Even Mom climbed into the saddle for a little ride.
After a warm up and dinner break with hot pizza the Markusons brought along from the Tavern, it was time for more outdoor fun!

Jim, of course, built a huge glowing fire for us to warm ourselves by in the 40 degree weather.

OK, maybe a little TOO HOT. Connor is holding his hand to his face because the fire is too hot to hold his marshmellow stick to.

AHHH, but Fireman Jim had the solution... his FIRE HELMET! Now, THAT'S the ticket!!

So CJ decided it was too hot for him too...

Oh, yeh, that's MUCH BETTER! Except my marshmellow is ON FIRE!!!

We sat around the fire until it got really dark - and Sue's shoes started to melt from being to close too the firepit!! (Thanks CJ for noticing her smoking soles!!!) And it was time to bid them a fond farewell.

It sure was fun having them visit... it reminded me of the days when I was growing up, being a city kid myself, and how much I loved visiting people that lived in the country. It gives us great joy to be able to share our love for the horses and country with others. Charmer and Brandy enjoyed the visit too and told me to be sure to tell them, "Come back for a ride anytime! We'll be waiting!!"
