Sierra Club Award Sept '08

The whole "Nightmare Lake" ordeal seemed like a bad dream by September, until Julie received a letter saying she was the recipient of the Sierra Club's Grassroots Award. So on Sept 22, she and two great friends, Kay Martin and Victoria Vander Well drove to Ames to join her for a special luncheon and the awards ceremony. It was a gorgeous day.

Julie accepted the award on behalf of the entire group, Friends of the Raccoon River Valley and all of their efforts to stop the damming of the Raccoon River to build a 5,000 plus lot private housing development in Dallas County that would have flooded many homes and thousands of acres. In her speech, Julie thanked everyone who helped in the group effort, including Kay Martin and husband Jim (who had a football game and couldn't be there).
