Curious Baby Deer

Turner's Wild Kingdom presents: Curious Baby Deer

Tonight all the does brought their youngins out to graze in the hayfield. It's rare to see so many out at once with all their babies in tow. But here they are, three does, EACH with a set of twins. I shot quite a bit of video which I'll piece together later this winter when I have a bit more time... but this short bit I just had to share!

Our resident injured doe, Mia, was close by and she is very used to me walking around taking pictures. So I walked out and slowly sat myself down at the edge of the field. It was getting dark and the bugs were starting to buzz, but I held my camera steady and crouched in a frozne pose, hoping her twins wouldn't notice me.

And all of a sudden, they started to walk right toward me, showing no fear, just kid-like curiosity of this mass that wasn't there a moment ago. Another doe to my right was snorting and stomping her foot in protest as the two youngsters approached me. I could just hear them saying to each other:

"What IS that thing?"

"I don't know... Let's go check it out!"

"Mom isn't going to like it if we get that far away."

"Oh, she won't care. Come on, scardy cat!"

(And the rest you'll have to check out on this video!)

That was some amazing footage! I can't believe the mama's let their babies come so close to you! The kids loved watching them, and just giggled when the two little ones split in separate directions! Thanks for sharing!!!
