Project DreamSpace Dec 08

In trying to keep up with the wonder woman who was my inspiration in creating this blog: Mrs. Kim Turner in Hawaii, I give you today's activities...

Today Jim and I, along with good friends, Tom and Mary Murphy, joined a bunch of great volunteers to help another good friend of ours, Greg and Joni Champion. We recently all got together after 23 years and learned that Greg and Joni were in a difficult situation. So Jim and I are donating a percentage of our feeder sales to help them. You can read more on our website: http://www.slowdownhayfeeder.com/index.php?option=content&task=view&id=20

This is the edition they added on for Alex's bedroom.

Champions have two daughters diagnosed with a muscular disorder called "A-T" for short. The youngest, Alex, also has cancer, but will have her last chemo treatment at the end of the month. KCCI TV 8, did this story in September: http://www.kcci.com/family/17509690/detail.html

Project Dream Space is much like the "Home Makeover" shows on TV - and the Champions will have a completely remodeled home in a few short days!! Here is a link to DreamSpace: http://www.projectdreamspace.org/Projects.html

So we arrived today and were put right to work. Jim and Tom put up cabinets and lots of trim and did most of the heavy lifting.

Mary painted, cleaned, organized and helped me go pick out the new chair:

I organized things, refilled cabinets and when we couldn't find a good comfortable chair for Paige, I just went out and "got" one. (all those years running a non-profit came in handy yet again!). The store is so humble and kind, they wish to remain anonymous.
All the volunteers were asked to bring an ornament to put on the tree they had gotten donated. This is the one we had made for them with all their names on it.

We're tired, but in a good way! This family so deserves this! The Champions have been living at a hotel for the last few days and the big REVEAL will be tomorrow at 3:30 PM!
